A Quick Post
I've been in San Francisco for the last week and just started the Miami Ad School Account Planning Boot Camp. So I've been M.I.A. in the blog world. In a nut shell, San Francisco is amazing. I guess since I'm actually living here and it's my currently reality, I'm looking at it with new eyes then when I've visited in the past. I'm strongly considering moving here but since it's only been a week, I haven't made any decisions yet. The main obvious factor drawing me back to NY would be my family and friends, although I've met some awesome people here as well. Pictures and more observations to follow eventually. But I will say that San Franciscians are way more laid back than New Yorkers and believe it or not, crazier. Then again, my main SF experience so far has been the free Bluegrass festival in Golden Gate Park. I've never seen so many white, stoned, dreadlocked people in my entire life. And wonder what kind of effect contact highs have on children.
It's fantastic being with so many like-minded people in my program despite the fact that my fellow classmates are from all around the world. We all have an insatiable curiosity about people, are outgoing, creative and fun. It reminds me of when I studied abroad my Junior year, except everyone is mature, friendly and not at all clicky. I'm looking forward to learning a TON and getting put to work.
In lieu of giving ya'll an actual long posted update, I'm posting a "music video" I made last year just for shits and giggles. The footage was shot at Webster Hall at a concert using my iPhone and photographs were either taken by me, or are of me as a child. The music is Zero 7, Mr. McGee. Enjoy!
Music Mondays
Happy Monday! I finally sent off an application that's been taking up loads of my time so I'll have more time to post. I'll let ya'll know what it is when I (hopefully) get in. I also got my lease extended another month which is a huge relief. Otherwise I would have had to look for a place not knowing if I got into this program that starts in October. So I've learned to take things one day at a time (again) because you never know what the next day may bring. And in this case, things actually went my way.
Saturday evening I went to my spin class, then sat around Union Square killing time before seeing Eclipse (!!!!!!) with my roommate. Wow, maybe I shouldn't have admitted that. But it was entertaining non the less. I took this fairly crappy video of this entertaining street performer. His best line was that we should give him lots of dough because his mom thinks he's a lawyer. In an effort to showcase some of my favorite music, I decided to make a very quick video. To my surprise, they synced up perfectly. Check it. It's set to "The Hustle" by Night at the Box.

Music and Images
For the last few days, I've been trying to find the right music to put in the background of a photo slide show I made for this application. One of the biggest struggles is to prevent myself from choosing the music just because I like it. Or the music makes me happy.. motivated, etc. So I thought - hey, why not make a slide show with music I like on my blog. Here it goes. This first video was made sometime during the winter (wow - feels so far away) using video I shot on my iPhone at a Body & Soul party. The song is Mr. McGee by Zero 7 off of their latest album. I kind of lucked out in that the flashing lights matched the music.

Happy Friday
Well Hello there and Happy Friday! If you have managed to stalk me on Facebook or Twitter, you'd know that I'm at the Ace Hotel working right now. Great spot and I'll be back but it's getting a little too cold in here. So I thought I'd share some of my experiences as of late with you. It is becoming strongly apparent (again) that everything happens for a reason. These last few weeks have had their ups and downs but for the most part, I've met some amazing people and have been intellectually and creatively stimulated and moved. My bit of wisdom is to try new things and just get out of your apartment. When I was in a relationship and employed, I often chose sleep, movies and generally hibernating rather than going to events alone or meet ups that started at 8am! But since then, every event I've gone to has been a positive experience.
Case in point. Last night I went to a classical music performance at my church (St. Peter's) in Citicorp Center. I was invited by a talented composer whom I met at a bar 2 years ago. Thanks to Facebook, we have vaguely kept in touch. I went because it was in my church and hey, you never know. The performance - by The New York Chamber Virtuosi conducted by Jean-Pierre Schmitt was incredibly moving and I spent the first half tearing. My friend's piece is called The Adventures of the Blue Cat (timely) - a metaphor for life about discovering the world, losing ones way, seeking advice and then realizing the power to finding ones way is to channel inner strength and light.
After the concert, I spoke to some interesting people. There were tons of French women who were characters straight out of a movie. One was kind enough to let me photograph her. She was a beautiful (Upper East Side?) dame - jewelry designer with piercing blue eyes and a unique fashion sense. See picture below. Unfortunately not pictured, were the two 70+ year old women - either twins or sisters wearing semi-matching black and white outfits with each with a small Channel clutch - one black with white trim and one white with black trim. When I finally get back to writing my novel, I'll have to work these three in.
Fascination
I'm totally fascinated by Lady Gaga. Aren't you?

This was taken at Webster Hall back in October, I think during a Body & Soul party. The music is from Zero 7's latest album Yeah Ghost, called Mr. McGee. Tell me what you think of my first effort!
Updates
So I've sort of gotten a little over the whole blog thing if ya'll haven't noticed. Although I'm sure you're entertained by my videos. I started seeing someone over a month ago and have spent the majority of my time with him.. and don't really feel comfortable sharing my adventures. It's both strange and highly satisfying to know that someone speaks my language. I mean really speaks my language - fake ghetto, funny voices, random tangents and understands me despite my mild ADD tendencies. It has been a great adventure so far.
But some things never change.. today at my spin class, Carl inflicted the most pain and torture on me that he ever has. He told everyone to sit down except for me and with a shit ton of tension, made me go faster and faster while instructing the class to cheer me on. I came seconds away from passing out before he told me I could stop. And I had no music to motivate me. At the end of class, I called him out on the lack of music so who knows why kind of revenge he'll get on me next week. Then after managing to shower in a post work out haze, I headed to Whole Foods for dinner. Not realizing that the hot food would cost an arm and a leg, ordered the meal with two sides; salmon, broccoli and (shhhh) mac n' cheese. It was way too much food and cost $16! Jeeze people. This ain't 2007. I don't got no money to burn and Whole Foods certainly isn't worth it. I don't even think they clearly posted the price. I figured it would be around $10 at most and didn't ask. Hmmm. Lesson learned.
Going backwards here.. took my folks to Schiller's for my dad's birthday last night. Pictures to follow. Also went to see my friend Rebecca Lerman in a music- 23 Coins about a child genius, genetics, and fake preachers. Interesting play and she did a hell of a job going from childlike banter to child genius preacher. Saturday went to a birthday party, etc. etc. and Friday went to Bushwick (I know, I'm so hardcore) to the CMJ festival. We only saw two bands perform but liked the Grandchildren out of Philly. They just seemed like a bunch of kids having fun and making awesome music. Kind of an eclectic, almost tribal sound that included harmonies fit for an a capella group mixed with the loud, full sound of errr punk rock. Okay, I ain't no music critic. Needless to say, it was worth the trek (aight we got a ride succkkas) - to Bushwick.
Peace out kids. Despite my total adrenaline rush from fearing Carl/ spin, I'm going to hit the hay.
Smile! You're on the Apple Store Camera
